Delhi University to limit FYUP fourth year to selected colleges

Delhi University is reconsidering the implementation of the fourth year of its Four‑Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) after only about 30% of eligible students chose to continue in the 2025‑26 academic session. The low enrolment makes running the fourth year at every college financially unsustainable.

The university’s Principals’ Association has proposed a cluster model in which a few colleges with adequate faculty and infrastructure would host fourth‑year classes, allowing students from other colleges to attend without formally transferring. Registrar Vikas Gupta said the recommendation is under active consideration and that resources should be used efficiently under the National Education Policy. A final decision will be taken after the complete admission data for the current year are available.
