Delhi voters: 47 lakh names at risk of electoral roll exclusion

Approximately 47 lakh voters in Delhi—nearly one-third of the city’s 1.45 crore registered electors—face potential exclusion from the upcoming draft electoral roll. This follows the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration phase. The draft roll is scheduled for publication on August 24, 2026.

Data from the Chief Electoral Officer indicates that enumeration forms for roughly 97.47 lakh electors were successfully collected and uploaded. The remaining names are expected to be categorized as ‘uncollectible,’ a group that includes individuals who could not be contacted, may have moved, may have deceased, or have duplicate entries. If these figures hold, Delhi would see the highest draft-stage deletion rate among states and Union Territories where SIR rolls have been published, surpassing rates seen in Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

In other local developments, the Delhi government has extended a 100% waiver on late payment surcharges for water bills until March 2027. Additionally, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched the ‘Swachhta Abhiyan 2026’ cleanliness campaign, and plans have been announced to develop the Yamuna riverfront based on the Sabarmati model.
