Delhi's Jantar Mantar protest sparks Supreme Court petition and heightened security

Volunteer Juned Malik, who helped feed students during the Central People's Party (CJP) demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that police detained him for about six hours without legal justification, subjected him to intimidation, and harassed his family. Malik seeks an independent inquiry and guidelines to protect civil liberties.

In response to a fresh warning from the CJP demanding the withdrawal of all FIRs against protesters, Delhi police reinforced the site on July 30. Barricades were welded together and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed around the clock to deter a possible re‑escalation of the protest. The authorities cited concerns over crowd safety and the renewed threat of renewed demonstrations.
