Delhi's Malviya Nagar fire kills 21, dozens injured, hotel owner arrested

A fire broke out on June 3‑4 at the Flourish Stay B&B in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar neighbourhood, killing 21 people, including 17 foreign nationals. The blaze exposed major fire‑safety violations such as sealed windows and a locked basement entrance, delaying rescue operations.

Fifteen patients were admitted to Max Hospital in Saket, of whom 13 are foreign nationals. All are reported as stable; one remains on ventilator support while two foreign patients have already been discharged. The hospital said patients are showing signs of improvement.

The hotel owner, Lovkesh Bajaj, was remanded to four days of police custody and booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide, mischief by fire and endangering life. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta warned of strict action against officials responsible for fire‑safety lapses, emphasizing possible imprisonment and fines.
