Delhi's massive plantation drive plants over 100,000 trees across 77 sites

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu led the Delhi Development Authority in a single‑day plantation drive that saw more than one lakh native trees and shrubs planted at 77 locations across the capital, including the Kamla Nehru Ridge. Around 200 participants – college and school students, resident‑welfare members and morning walkers – joined the effort, and Sandhu directed the DDA to make such drives regular, appointing nodal officers to ensure sapling survival.

The Delhi Medical Association also took part, with President Neelam Lekhi and other doctors planting saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The drive was organized by the Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who earlier encouraged over 430 students and teachers at the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. The initiative forms part of a year‑long plan to plant 7 million trees in Delhi.
