Deliblatska Peščara wildfire produces fire tornado

A fire tornado was recorded in the Deliblatska Peščara region on August 20, marking a peak in the ongoing wildfire activity. The phenomenon was specifically documented in the area of Grebenac.

Firefighters are working continuously to combat the blaze amidst extreme heat. Satellite imagery has detected the highest levels of thermal radiation since the start of the fire in the Deliblatska Peščara region.

A fire tornado is a ground-based phenomenon caused by intense heat from large fires, which creates a vacuum that draws in cooler air, causing it to rotate and lift flames, embers, and ash into the sky. While such large-scale occurrences are rare in Serbia due to local vegetation types, these vortices significantly complicate firefighting efforts by spreading flames in unpredictable directions.
