Deligrad Battle: Karađorđe's forces defeat Ottoman troops

On September 3, 1806, Serbian insurgents led by Karađorđe achieved a decisive victory against Ottoman forces at the Battle of Deligrad. The conflict took place at the entrance to the Juni gorge, located between Aleksinac and Ražanj.

To prevent a major Ottoman offensive ordered by the Sublime Porte, the Serbian leadership established the Deligrad fortification to block expected attacks from the south, specifically from the direction of Niš. The construction of the stronghold was aided by Vuča Žikić, a former Austrian captain with expertise in fortification, who joined the uprising despite losing his Austrian pension.

The fortification, built rapidly by the Vučić brothers and Jovan, featured nine trenches and four bastions. It proved to be an unconquerable position for Ottoman forces until the suppression of the First Serbian Uprising in 1813.
