Deloitte survey highlights talent and data needs for AI in finance

A Deloitte survey of more than 1,400 finance executives across 26 countries indicates a shift in how organizations approach artificial intelligence. While previous years focused on AI investment and automation, the 2027 report suggests that CFOs are now prioritizing organizational redesign and talent readiness to scale AI responsibly.

Research shows that companies focusing solely on technology-driven AI investments are 1.6 times more likely to report that those investments are not meeting expectations. To realize a true return on investment, leaders must address core capabilities, including trusted data, clear governance, and change enablement to align culture and leadership with new tools.

Effective AI implementation in finance requires a foundation of high-quality, governed data. Practical strategies for CFOs include standardizing dimensions, validating currencies and units, and resolving duplicates within datasets. Establishing these data standards allows AI to move from experimental use to a controlled operating process in workflows such as cash forecasting, reconciliation, and fraud detection.
