Delta Air Lines flight diverts to Honolulu due to cabin fumes
A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Maui to Seattle was forced to divert to Honolulu on Saturday night after passengers and crew reported significant fumes in the cabin. The Airbus A321neo, carrying 189 passengers, stopped climbing at approximately 5,000 feet as the crew dealt with the odor.
Reports indicate that both pilots utilized oxygen masks during the incident, noting that their eyes were burning. Despite following smoke and fumes removal checklists and depressurizing the cabin, the odor persisted. After landing at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, fuel was observed discharging from the aircraft.
Four passengers and one crew member required medical attention at local hospitals due to symptoms including nausea and headaches. Aviation authorities and Delta Air Lines are conducting technical investigations to determine the cause of the fumes and whether the fuel leak is related to the cabin odor.
