Edo Governor Okpebholo Praises High Turnout in Peaceful Local Government Elections

Governor Monday Okpebholo cast his vote at Ward 2, Udomi Primary School in Esan Central LGA and said the local government elections across Edo’s 18 LGAs were peaceful and showed strong grassroots participation. He described the turnout as “very high” and a reflection of his administration’s governance, urging residents to continue behaving peacefully while awaiting results from the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.

Accredited observers from the Initiative for Awareness of Civic Education for Citizens and other monitoring groups corroborated the governor’s remarks, noting orderly voting, no major security incidents and the presence of security personnel at polling stations. While most areas reported smooth conduct, some reports highlighted low voter turnout in certain wards and delayed arrival of electoral materials in parts of Egor LGA. Additionally, a statewide movement restriction meant to secure the process was reportedly ignored by some motorists and traders in Benin City, though overall voting proceeded without significant disruption.
