Delta State Police seize large drug haul and arrest multiple traffickers

The Delta State Police Command conducted intelligence‑led operations on June 3, 2026, that resulted in the interception of a Mercedes truck at the First Niger Bridge head in Asaba. The driver, 47‑year‑old Obinna Nwosu of Idemili South, Anambra State, claimed to be transporting plumbing materials, but police uncovered a cache that included 13,000 sachets of 100 mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of 225 mg Tramadol, 100 sachets of Swinol, 300 sachets of Rohypnol, 60 sachets of Codeine Phosphate tablets and 100 tablets of MDMA (Molly). Nwosu was arrested and taken into custody while investigations continue to identify other network members.

In a separate raid the same day, the Command’s Anti‑Vice Squad seized a drug‑distribution centre in Alegbo Community, Ika North East, arresting two suspects, Henry Edward and Okwudili Kingsley. Police recovered five gallons of fermented cannabis mixture ("Monkey Tail") and additional substances. Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi praised the operations, warning that illicit drugs fuel cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes, and urged public cooperation to dismantle the trafficking network.
