Dementia awareness events scheduled across Germany and Austria

Various community events and educational programs are scheduled across Germany and Austria to observe Dementia Awareness Week and World Alzheimer's Day in September 2026.

In Wangen im Allgäu, Germany, a broad coalition of local organizations, including the Stadtbücherei Wangen, VHS, and various care facilities, has expanded its program. Activities include an information stand at the local market, lectures on dementia prevention and brain training, creative workshops, and a guided tour at the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen designed specifically for people with dementia and their relatives.

In Linz, Austria, the MAS Alzheimerhilfe will host a scenic reading titled ‘Die Akte Auguste D.’ at the Neue Rathaus. The performance explores the historical relationship between researcher Alois Alzheimer and his patient Auguste Deter, whose symptoms led to the scientific identification of the disease. The event aims to provide education and reduce the social stigma surrounding dementia, which affects approximately 170,000 people in Austria.
