Dementia care and nursing levels in Germany
Dementia leads to a progressive decline in mental abilities, including memory, language, and orientation. As the disease advances, individuals often require professional assistance.
In Germany, nursing care levels are determined by assessments from the Medical Service (Medizinischer Dienst) rather than specific diagnoses. However, those suffering from severe forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer's, frequently receive care level 3 upon their initial classification. While family members often provide initial support, the physical and mental strain of caregiving may eventually necessitate a transition to full-time inpatient nursing facilities.
