Dementia Risks and Policy Push Highlight Need for Broader Support

A 42‑year‑old technology engineer in Singapore experienced severe cognitive lapses after months of 14‑hour workdays, prompting doctors to explain that brain fatigue and "brain fog" can be mistaken for early dementia. They emphasized adequate sleep, regular exercise, balanced nutrition and reduced workload as essential for recovery.

In Taiwan, the Dementia Association urged the government to enact a Dementia Basic Law to create a cross‑ministerial framework covering health care, employment, financial services and judicial rights for people with dementia. Experts highlighted that about 8‑9% of dementia patients develop neuropsychiatric symptoms, increasing caregiver stress, and that early management of risk factors could prevent or delay up to 45% of cases.
