Organizations such as Dementia Australia and Carers Australia have called for a national review of Commonwealth-funded respite services, citing issues with affordability, local availability, and long waiting times. Additionally, the Alzheimer’s Society reported that significant delays in diagnosis—with 45% of carers waiting over six months—are causing financial strain and professional difficulties for families. The charity is pushing for a standard to provide diagnosis and care plans within 18 weeks of a GP referral.
