Dementia support initiatives launched in Germany and Switzerland
Various organizations in Germany and Switzerland are launching new initiatives and resources to support individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.
The Alzheimer Gesellschaft Berlin e. V. has released an updated digital guide available for free as a PDF. The 15-chapter manual provides fundamental knowledge regarding dementia, practical daily living tips, and information on various care and housing options. A printed version is planned for early 2027 to incorporate potential changes from the Nursing Reorganization Act (PNOG).
In Switzerland, the Reformed Churches of Bern-Jura-Solothurn and the Roman Catholic State Church of the Canton of Bern are hosting training sessions titled ‘On the Way to a Dementia-Friendly Church’. These events aim to support social workers, clergy, and caregivers. One session in Wiedlisbach focuses on residential and care concepts, while an online session titled ‘White Grief: About Saying Goodbye in the Middle of Life’ will address how relatives cope with the gradual loss of a loved one.
