Democratic leaders back Congressman Thanedar for Michigan re‑election

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar issued a joint endorsement of Congressman Shri Thanedar for re‑election in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. The leaders highlighted Thanedar’s record on lowering housing, grocery and healthcare costs and his willingness to confront former President Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans.

Thanedar thanked the leadership, reiterated his focus on affordable living for Detroit and surrounding communities, and linked his campaign to the broader Democratic effort to regain control of the House and support Jeffries for the speakership. The endorsement comes ahead of the August 4 primary, where Thanedar faces challenger Donavan McKinney, who is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America.
