Democratic Republic of Congo Pushes Constitutional Reform Amid Calls for Referendum

Political leader Germain Kambinga of the Centre Movement called for an urgent national referendum to rewrite the DRC constitution and establish a Fourth Republic. He argued that current institutions have the capacity to drive constitutional change and stressed the need for broad public engagement to safeguard sovereignty.

The Congolese Interfaith Council released a mid‑term report urging the creation of a Truth, Reconciliation and National Cohesion Commission and a permanent national dialogue. The council called for an inclusive, peaceful debate on constitutional and institutional reforms to strengthen stability, justice and national unity.

Both statements emphasize a democratic, consensus‑based approach to reshaping the country's constitutional order and fostering long‑term cohesion.
