Democratic Republic of the Congo faces mixed security reports in Ituri and North Kivu
Security remains volatile in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with conflicting reports emerging from different provinces. In Ituri, National Deputy Gratien Iracan noted a relative calm in some areas, despite isolated killings and ongoing concerns in the Mambasa territory. Iracan praised the unilateral ceasefire by the CRP and the proactive field presence of the new military governor, General-Major Gaby Kasongo Mulumba Batoka. He also expressed support for President Félix Tshisekedi’s initiative for a national dialogue to address the country’s challenges.
Conversely, intense fighting continues in the North Kivu provinces of Masisi and Walikale. Clashes between the FARDC, supported by Wazalendo groups, and AFC/M23 rebels have led to shifting territorial control and significant population displacements. While government forces have recently reclaimed several localities in the Ufamandu 1er and Nyamaboko 1 groupings, the situation remains strategic and unstable, particularly near the Ngungu area and the axis toward the mining town of Rubaya.
