Democratic Republic of the Congo intensifies peace diplomacy and calls for national dialogue

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is intensifying its regional diplomatic efforts and internal political mobilization to restore peace in its eastern regions. Floribert Anzuluni, acting as a special envoy for President Félix Tshisekedi, recently met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to discuss progress regarding the disarmament, demobilization, and cantonment of the FDLR and affiliated groups.

Domestically, the Mouvement Centriste Congolais has called for a ‘dialogue of patriots’ to address state destabilization and governance challenges. Party representative Germain Kambinga emphasized the need for national unity and resistance against external threats, specifically citing the need to counter Rwandan aggression. He expressed support for President Tshisekedi’s initiative for a national dialogue aimed at state refoundation and peace.

While the government continues to cooperate with UN experts, local commentators stress that lasting peace requires a fundamental fight against impunity and the implementation of binding international mechanisms to protect Congolese sovereignty.
