Democratic Republic of the Congo faces surge in violence and health crises

Violence continues to escalate in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, marked by massacres, armed clashes, and humanitarian concerns. In the Ituri province, a night attack attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed at least 13 civilians in Babila-Babombi and resulted in significant property damage, including the burning of vehicles.

In South Kivu, fighting between the FARDC and the AFC-M23 coalition has caused civilian casualties in the Kalehe territory. Reports indicate that mortar shells launched during clashes in the Ziralo grouping killed at least three to five people, including a woman and her two children, in the village of Bundje.

In the Kongo-Central province, six detainees died within a week at the Boko detention center. Local health authorities suspect a cholera outbreak fueled by severe overcrowding, as the facility is housing nearly double its intended capacity.

Meanwhile, political tensions persist in Kinshasa, where the C64 opposition coalition has set a deadline for the government to engage in dialogue, condemning recent attacks on political offices and calling for the resignation of President Félix Tshisekedi.
