Demokritos Research Center inaugurates new smart building and AI facility

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is inaugurating the new building of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National Centre for Scientific Research 'Demokritos'. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to support high-level research in artificial intelligence, next-generation networks, and cybersecurity.

The new infrastructure houses the center's central data center, which will serve all Demokritos institutes and companies within the Leofkos technology park. It also includes a node of the National Technological Infrastructure Network (GRNET), providing high-speed, secure connections to the DAIDALOS supercomputer for advanced data processing.

Additionally, the building serves as the headquarters for Pharos A.E., a Greek artificial intelligence factory. The facility itself is designed as a 'smart building,' acting as a living laboratory for testing intelligent building technologies. The construction of this project was funded by the European Investment Bank.
