Denby closes all remaining UK stores following rapid stock sell-off
The historic British pottery brand Denby has closed all its remaining UK stores for the final time. While the company had originally planned to shut its outlets on Sunday, August 30, high consumer demand and increased footfall during a closing-down sale caused stock to sell much faster than anticipated. As a result, all stores closed on Saturday, August 29.
Founded in 1809 and based in Derbyshire, the company entered administration this year due to financial struggles driven by rising costs. The closure of the retail outlets is expected to result in the loss of approximately 600 jobs. The final locations to close included outlets in Ashford, Portsmouth, Braintree, York, Dalton Park, Castleford, and Cheshire Oaks, with a Somerset location also shutting.
Despite the cessation of its retail store operations, joint administrator Tony Wright of FRP stated that Denby will continue to trade under a different name.
