Dengue cases and deaths rise across Mexico

Dengue fever cases and fatalities are rising across Mexico. According to the Ministry of Health, confirmed deaths have tripled this year, rising from seven to 26. These deaths have been recorded across 13 different states, with Sonora reporting the highest number at five, followed by Veracruz and Tabasco with three each.

Nationwide, confirmed cases have surpassed 5,000, with 383 new infections reported in a single week. Approximately 69 percent of all cases are concentrated in five states: Sonora, Veracruz, Tabasco, Sinaloa, and Chiapas. More than half of the total accumulated cases (2,688) have been classified as dengue with warning signs or severe dengue.

In the state of Yucatán, a recent uptick was noted during the first week of September, marking the highest weekly incidence recorded in the state for 2026. Yucatán has reached 33 confirmed cases for the year. Additionally, health authorities are monitoring 91 probable cases in the region that are currently under study.
