Dengue cases rise in Chattogram division and Chennai

Dengue infections are rising in several regions across Asia. In Bangladesh’s Chattogram division, cases have surged significantly. In the Chattogram district, 1,012 people were infected and eight died during the first 15 days of September. Cox’s Bazar has also reported 3,879 cases this year, including six deaths among Rohingya refugees in local camps.

In India, Chennai has reported an increase in fever cases, with 140 dengue infections detected among more than 2,000 reported fever cases during the first 10 days of September. In response, the Greater Chennai Corporation has deployed approximately 3,700 mosquito-control workers to conduct house-to-house visits and eliminate breeding sites in residential areas, construction sites, and public institutions.

Health authorities in Chennai noted that while dengue is a concern, other viral infections such as influenza A, rhinovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus are also circulating. In Tamil Nadu, dengue remains a significant public health concern at the state level.
