Overview

Dengue fever outbreaks continue across South and Southeast Asia. In Sri Lanka, the National Dengue Control Unit recorded 88,088 confirmed cases and 63 deaths, while Singapore reported over 1,700 cumulative cases. Malaysia saw cases surge to 58,079 by mid-August, a 56.2 percent increase over the previous year, resulting in 55 deaths.

In Bangladesh, the epidemic has escalated into a dual public health crisis involving both dengue and measles. The dengue death toll has risen to 368 for the year, following a period of sharp increases in mortality. Since January 1, total hospitalizations have reached 118,502, with 6,023 individuals remaining under medical treatment. The disease has spread to all 64 districts, with high patient volumes in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. The surge continues to pressure a healthcare system already struggling with a measles outbreak that has claimed over 1,162 deaths since mid-March.
