Dengue cases rise in La Libertad and Asuncion

The La Libertad region in Peru has recorded over 16,000 dengue cases, including approximately 12,000 confirmed and 4,000 probable instances. Arístides Aurora, president of the Medical Federation of Peru in the region, has criticized current prevention efforts, noting that resources and brigades are centralized within the Regional Health Management, which may delay timely responses in certain provinces.

In Paraguay, health authorities report a slight increase in suspected dengue cases in Asuncion and Villa Hayes. While there has been no active viral circulation or confirmed cases in the 21 days prior to the latest report, the official cumulative total for the year stands at 293 cases.

Health officials in both regions warn that heavy rains, potentially exacerbated by El Niño, increase the risk of mosquito breeding sites. Recommendations include eliminating standing water in containers, chlorinating pools, and seeking medical attention for symptoms such as fever and body aches.
