Dengue cases rise sharply in Brazil's Ceará and Acre states

The health authority in Ceará reported 6,114 confirmed dengue cases as of 10 July 2026, with the outbreak spreading across municipalities in the North, East Coast and Jaguaribe Valley. The state agency Sesa is intensifying prevention measures, including fumigation, health‑worker training, and public campaigns to eliminate mosquito breeding sites such as standing water in containers.

In the neighboring state of Acre, officials are investigating two suspected dengue‑related deaths while confirming 993 cases and 15 severe cases up to the week ending 23 June 2026. Most severe cases were recorded in Rio Branco. Although total cases have fallen sharply from 2025, the incidence remains at 165.2 per 100 000 residents, prompting continued surveillance and vector‑control actions.
