Dengue Cases Surge in Ho Chi Minh City as Hospitalizations Double

Hospitalizations for dengue fever in Ho Chi Minh City have doubled, with severe complications rising five‑fold compared with the previous week. Doctors report a "dual epidemic" as patients are also presenting with hand‑foot‑mouth disease and encephalitis, affecting both children and adults during the rainy season.

The city health department urges families to monitor fever carefully, using paracetamol for temperatures above 38.5 °C and avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDs. Adequate fluid and nutrition intake, frequent urine output checks, and vigilance for warning signs such as persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding, or respiratory distress are essential. Even after fever subsides, the 24‑48 hour window remains high‑risk for severe dengue shock, and prompt medical attention is recommended if any danger signs appear.
