In Hanoi, the Hanoi CDC reported that more than 3,200 cases have been recorded across 118 wards and communes since the start of 2026, with no deaths reported in the capital to date. Medical experts, including Dr. Nguyen Thai Minh from Dong Da General Hospital, have issued warnings regarding the critical phase of the illness, which often coincides with the period when a patient’s fever begins to subside. This stage, typically occurring between the third and seventh day of symptoms, can lead to complications such as plasma leakage, hypotension, shock, low platelet counts, and hemorrhaging.
Health authorities emphasize the danger of misdiagnosing the virus as a common flu. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Head of the Virus and Parasite Department, has advised against self-medicating with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to avoid increasing bleeding risks. Patients are urged to monitor for warning signs, including severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, lethargy, or bleeding from the gums and nose, and to seek immediate professional care.
