Brazil records dengue surge with deaths across Paraíba, Acre and Mato Grosso in early 2026

In the first half of 2026, Brazil's Paraíba state reported 4,433 probable arbovirus cases, of which 4,292 were confirmed dengue infections. Six dengue deaths were recorded in the municipalities of Sumé, Alagoa Nova, Bayeux, Campina Grande, João Pessoa and Monteiro.

In Acre, health officials confirmed two suspected dengue deaths that remain under investigation.

Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso, logged 568 dengue cases and one confirmed death, with an additional fatality still being investigated. The city also reported 115 chikungunya cases and highlighted the ongoing public‑health response, including free Qdenga vaccination for youths aged 10‑14 and intensified community‑based mosquito‑control measures.

State health secretariats emphasized the need for continued prevention, early diagnosis and vector‑control actions as climate conditions favor mosquito proliferation.
