Dengue fever cases rise in Rawalpindi and Gandaki Province

Dengue fever cases are rising in parts of South Asia, prompting intensified public health responses in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and Gandaki Province, Nepal.

In Rawalpindi, seven cases have been reported this season, including a recent admission to Holy Family Hospital. Health authorities have deployed 1,400 teams for surveillance and larvae elimination at over 145,000 locations. Enforcement actions have resulted in 2,543 FIRs, 652 sealed buildings, and fines totaling Rs2.568 million against those violating standard operating procedures.

In Nepal’s Gandaki Province, 2,311 cases have been recorded across 10 districts since the Poush-Magh period, with a sharp increase observed since July. Baglung Municipality has been identified as the worst-affected area. Health officials have launched ‘search and destroy’ campaigns to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in stagnant water to prevent a larger outbreak.
