Dengue fever outbreaks in South Asia

Overview

Dengue fever cases have risen across parts of South Asia, including Pakistan, Nepal, and India, prompting various public health interventions.

In Pakistan, authorities in Rawalpindi have deployed 1,400 teams for surveillance and larvae elimination, resulting in legal actions such as sealed buildings and fines for those violating operating procedures. In Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority and district administration have increased hospital inspections for essential supplies and deployed hundreds of personnel to monitor urban and rural breeding sites.

In Nepal’s Gandaki Province, over 2,300 cases have been recorded since the Poush-Magh period, with Baglung Municipality identified as a major affected area. Health officials there have initiated ‘search and destroy’ campaigns to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

In India’s Doda district, 52 patients were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital following a rise in cases. Local municipal committees have responded with anti-larval spraying, fogging, and door-to-door inspections, destroying nearly 239 breeding sites.
