Dengue fever complications prompt medical warnings in Vietnam

Medical professionals in Vietnam are issuing warnings regarding the severe complications of dengue fever following recent critical cases in different regions.

At Hoa Binh General Hospital, a 30-year-old male was treated for dengue fever characterized by high fever, dizziness, blood concentration, and significantly low platelet counts. Doctors emphasized that the disease can transition into a dangerous phase, requiring close monitoring of fluid levels and circulation.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Children's Hospital treated a 7-year-old boy who suffered from severe dengue shock, coagulation disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, and severe liver damage. The patient required respiratory support via intubation and mechanical ventilation due to abdominal and pleural effusion.

Health experts advise against self-medicating at home when fever persists. Warning signs include abdominal pain, vomiting, black stools, cold extremities, and lethargy. Prevention methods include eliminating mosquito breeding sites, using mosquito nets, and consulting medical professionals regarding dengue vaccines.
