Dengue fever outbreaks surge across Vietnam

Dengue fever cases are surging across Vietnam, with significant outbreaks reported in southern and central provinces. In Ho Chi Minh City, over 31,000 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year. Medical facilities, including the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, have treated severe cases involving multi-organ failure and shock, sometimes requiring expensive treatments such as ECMO.

In the Dak Lak province, the Center for Disease Control reported 6,112 cases as of September 10, including two deaths. High-risk areas include several communes and wards within the province. Health authorities note that the rainy season and humid weather are creating ideal conditions for mosquito breeding, increasing the risk of further transmission.

Medical experts warn that there is no specific treatment for Dengue fever and that the disease can progress to a severe stage between the third and seventh day of symptoms. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying conditions like type 2 diabetes, are at higher risk of complications such as liver damage, respiratory failure, and coagulation disorders.
