Dengue fever risks rise in Hanoi as cases exceed 3,200

Dengue fever patients in Hanoi face significant risks during the critical phase, which often coincides with the period when their fever begins to subside. This dangerous stage typically occurs between the third and seventh day of illness.

According to the Hanoi CDC, more than 3,200 cases of dengue fever have been recorded across 118 wards and communes in the city since the beginning of 2026, with no deaths reported to date. Medical experts, including Dr. Nguyen Thai Minh from Dong Da General Hospital, warn that the reduction in fever does not necessarily indicate recovery. Instead, patients may experience complications such as plasma leakage, decreased circulatory volume, hypotension, shock, low platelet counts, and hemorrhaging.

Other serious complications can include pleural effusion, abdominal effusion, or blood clotting disorders. Patients are advised to monitor for warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, lethargy, bleeding from the gums or nose, vomiting blood, or black stools. Medical professionals urge patients to seek immediate care if these symptoms appear and to follow professional guidance regarding fluid replacement and medication rather than self-treating.
