Dengue outbreak in La Libertad, Peru, claims fifth victim
A four-year-old girl has become the fifth person to die from dengue in the La Libertad region of Peru. The child initially received medical care in the Laredo district before being transferred to the Hospital Belén in Trujillo, where she passed away in intensive care.
Regional Health Manager Gerardo Florián noted that this is the first death involving a young child recorded this year due to the disease. Health authorities report that the region has surpassed 10,900 cases, with approximately 6,000 concentrated in the province of Trujillo, specifically in the districts of El Porvenir, La Esperanza, and Florencia de Mora.
In response to the critical epidemiological situation, health officials are conducting fumigation and larval control in high-risk areas. Vaccination efforts are also underway in districts such as Chao, Virú, and El Porvenir, where 7,000 doses have been authorized by the Ministry of Health.
