Dengue outbreaks reported across Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru
Several Latin American countries are reporting significant dengue fever activity. In Costa Rica, the Ministry of Health has recorded 5,302 confirmed cases, a 38.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The highest number of infections is concentrated in the Alajuela province.
In Panama, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reports 9,055 accumulated cases and 19 deaths. While this represents a 27.3% decrease in cases and a 9.8% decrease in hospitalizations compared to 2025, authorities warn against complacency. The Colón and Metropolitan regions have recorded the highest number of cases.
In Peru, the Piura region is facing a high incidence with 11,233 cases, where over 25% of patients are children aged 0 to 11. Health specialists are proposing an expansion of the vaccination age range to include children as young as 6 years old. Meanwhile, in Huánuco, health authorities are intensifying control measures following 482 reported cases. In Piura, EsSalud and local health directorates are coordinating an intensive vaccination campaign for those aged 10 to 20 starting October 12.
