Dengue Outbreaks Surge in Sri Lanka and Persist in Singapore

Sri Lanka's National Dengue Control Unit has recorded 88,088 confirmed dengue cases and 63 deaths this year, giving a case‑fatality rate of 0.07 %. Health officials warn that the disease continues to spread across the island, especially after heavy rains, and urge residents to eliminate stagnant water, use repellents and seek prompt medical care.

In Singapore, the National Environment Agency reported 119 new dengue infections for the week ending 1 August, bringing the cumulative total for 2026 to more than 1,700 cases. The country remains in its eighth consecutive week with over 100 cases and has 17 active clusters, including several high‑risk “black‑spot” areas where mosquito breeding has been detected. Authorities continue to advise the public to remove breeding sites and apply insecticide treatments in homes and public spaces.
