Dengue outcomes diverge in São Paulo state, Brazil, in 2026

The municipality of Santo Antônio de Posse reported a sharp decline in dengue cases in early 2026, with only 11 confirmed infections between 1 January and 20 May—a 99.4 % drop compared with the same period in 2025. Health officials attributed the reduction to intensified vector‑control activities, home visits, removal of mosquito breeding sites and strong community participation.

In contrast, the nearby city of Taubaté confirmed its sixth dengue‑related death in 2026, bringing the regional death toll to ten across Taubaté, Jacareí, São José dos Campos and Tremembé. The Department Regional de Saúde reported 7,516 confirmed cases in the Taubaté health district, which covers 39 municipalities, and declared an epidemic situation due to the surge in infections. Authorities continue to urge residents to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds to curb further spread.
