Denis Villeneuve narrows James Bond cast as August screen tests loom

Director Denis Villeneuve, together with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, has begun notifying actors who have advanced to the next stage of the James Bond casting process. The filmmakers – supported by veteran casting director Nina Gold – are scheduling screen‑tests for August, with sources reporting the shortlist will include between five and seven performers, though some suggest the number could rise into the teens.

Actors most frequently linked to the role are British‑born Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson, among other unnamed hopefuls. The new film, the 26th Bond entry, will be the first produced entirely under Amazon MGM Studios after it took full creative control of the franchise. Screenwriter Steven Knight is developing a story that may explore Bond’s early, pre‑"00" origins. Production is slated to begin in 2027, and the studio aims to announce the chosen actor by the end of 2026.
