Denizli launches 61 million‑lira storm‑water network in Şemikler, Turkey
The Denizli Metropolitan Municipality’s Water and Sewerage Administration (DESKİ) has started a 61 million Turkish‑lira project to build a new storm‑water drainage system in Şemikler neighbourhood of the Merkezefendi district. The work, aimed at reducing flood risk from increasingly intense rainstorms linked to climate change, includes laying a 2,700‑metre main pipe and installing about 400 storm‑water grates.
The separate drainage network will channel rainwater away from the existing sewage system, improving road safety, decreasing pavement damage, and lowering future maintenance costs for the city. The first excavation was completed, and the municipality plans to finish the works on a rapid schedule while minimizing disruption to residents.
