Turkey municipal water, energy, flood & green upgrades
Overview
Since late May 2026, Turkey’s nationwide municipal services programme has expanded significantly, focusing on water security, flood mitigation, and renewable energy. Water infrastructure remains a primary focus. Major projects include a €100 million pipe-replacement scheme in Rize to reduce losses from 50% to under 20%, a 525 million-lira network overhaul in İzmir, and a 45-km conveyance line in Sakarya linking Ballıkaya Dam to Sapanca Lake. In Denizli, a 141 million-lira upgrade in Tavas aims to mitigate drought, while a 61 million-lira storm-water project is underway in Şemikler. Other notable works include a 400 million-lira upgrade in Kocaeli, a 45 million-lira project in Trabzon, and a 12 million-euro wastewater treatment plant in Adana. Recent developments show accelerated infrastructure expansion in Antalya and Hatay. ASAT has invested approximately 26.3 billion TL since 2019, constructing nearly 5 million meters of new drinking water lines to increase storage and reduce loss. In Hatay, HATSU has completed 1,919 km of lines in the last two years, a volume that exceeds the 1,035 km constructed during the previous decade (2014–2024) by 384 km. Newer regional projects include the Vakfıkebir Kavalik Group in Trabzon, a 19.4 million TL investment targeting 11 neighborhoods with a 2027 completion date, and the Gemlik Şükriye Irrigation Facility in Bursa, which is 80% complete. Additionally, maintenance on a 17-kilometer line in Balıkesir and pressure upgrades in Edirne’s Kaleiçi region have been reported. Resource management and biodiversity initiatives are also expanding. In Manisa, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has released 1,285,500 scale carp fingerlings into 26 dams and ponds to replenish fish stocks. In Seydikemer, MUSKI is replacing and adding water collection structures in the Zorlar neighborhood to double water flow from 2 to 4 liters per second. Renewable energy and green initiatives continue to grow.
