Denkyira chieftaincy installations suspended by REGSEC

The Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has issued a directive suspending all chieftaincy installations in the Denkyira Traditional Area. The order, signed by Central Regional Minister Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere on August 28, 2026, aims to address a volatile security situation and threats to public peace caused by a dispute between two rival factions.

Under the directive, all Akwasidae rituals, gatherings, and celebrations must be confined strictly to the palace grounds in Dunkwa-On-Offin. The suspension of chieftaincy installations applies to both factions, prohibiting the installation of any sub-chiefs or traditional leaders until further notice.

Security personnel have been deployed to monitor the palaces of the feuding factions. REGSEC warned that any breach of these orders will result in an immediate ban, physical shutdown of activities by state security, and the arrest and prosecution of violators. The council intends to invite representatives from both sides to a resolution meeting in the coming days.
