Denmark: 40% of citizens avoid doctor visits due to symptom uncertainty

A new survey conducted by YouGov for Gjensidige reveals that four out of ten Danes have avoided seeking medical attention within the last five years, despite feeling a need to do so.

The primary reason cited by nearly half of those respondents is uncertainty regarding whether their symptoms were serious enough to warrant a doctor's visit. Other factors contributing to medical avoidance include long waiting times, a lack of trust in their own physicians, and approximately one in four individuals deciding that a visit was ultimately unnecessary.

Mette Glad, health specialist at Gjensidige, advises that individuals do not need to self-diagnose or determine the severity of a concern before seeking help. She emphasizes that if symptoms persist, change, or cause worry, it is better to seek a professional assessment rather than managing the doubt alone.
