Denmark approves new labor scheme for non-EU recruitment
The Danish Parliament has approved a new collective agreement-based scheme designed to facilitate the recruitment of labor from 16 selected non-EU countries. Set to begin on January 1, 2027, the initiative aims to address labor shortages while upholding the 'Danish model' by ensuring foreign workers are protected by established wage and working conditions.
Under the new rules, participating companies must be covered by specific collective agreements negotiated by the Danish Employers' Confederation (DA) and the United Federation of Trade Unions (FH). The scheme includes a minimum annual salary requirement of 322,000 DKK. To prevent exploitation, trade unions and shop stewards will be granted the authority to monitor compliance and intervene if working conditions do not meet agreement standards.
While major labor and employer organizations like FH and DA have hailed the decision as a victory for the Danish model, the move has faced sharp criticism from 'yellow' organizations. Krifa and the employer association KA have condemned the legislation, arguing it undermines organizational freedom and favors specific mainstream unions by excluding companies with alternative collective agreements.
