Denmark: Nearly half of citizens support electric scooter ban

A survey conducted by Epinion for DR indicates that nearly half of Danes support a ban on electric scooters in traffic. Out of approximately 1,000 respondents, 44 percent stated they are ‘agree’ or ‘mostly agree’ that riding electric scooters should be prohibited.

Safety concerns drive the discourse, with statistics suggesting the accident risk for electric scooters is eight to nine times higher than for traditional bicycles based on police-registered accidents. Jakob Bøving Arendt, head of the Traffic Safety Council, noted that dangerous situations in traffic contribute to the public desire for a total ban.

While the Danish Transport Agency has announced a new investigation into regulations, a report is not expected until early 2027. Other European nations have implemented different measures, such as helmet requirements in Paris or age limit increases in Norway.
