Denmark prepares for autumn vaccination season

As the autumn vaccination season approaches in Denmark, industry organization Lif is calling for government action to strengthen the national vaccination effort. Lif proposes three key initiatives, including accelerating the assessment of new vaccines—such as those for pneumococci, RS-virus, and shingles—to ensure citizens have timely access to modern preventative medicine.

Regarding the upcoming seasonal program, the Danish Health Authority has announced that free influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations will be available starting October 1 for all citizens aged 65 and older. Certain risk groups under 65, including those with chronic heart or lung diseases, severely weakened immune systems, or a BMI over 35, may also qualify for free vaccination. Pregnant women are also recommended to receive vaccinations based on specific risk factors.

Additionally, free MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccinations are available to adults aged 18 and older who lack immunity. While tetanus and diphtheria boosters are generally not covered by the free program unless following an injury, the seasonal vaccination window for influenza and COVID-19 is scheduled to run until December 20.
