Denmark proposes financial aid for low-income pensioners

The Danish government has proposed allocating 2.1 billion kroner annually in its budget proposal to support low-income pensioners with limited assets. According to Mads Moberg Reumert, chief economist at Danica Pension, approximately 150,000 pensioners could receive a new monthly benefit of 1,600 kroner before tax, which equates to roughly 12,000 kroner annually after tax.

Additionally, the government plans to raise the threshold for liquid assets allowed to qualify for the 'ældrecheck' (elderly check). Currently, this check is forfeited if assets exceed 108,000 kroner. The proposed changes aim to allow more pensioners to qualify for this benefit, which is expected to exceed 27,000 kroner next year.
