Denmark registers first Saildrone unmanned surface vehicles
The first four Saildrone Voyager unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) have been registered in Denmark and will operate under the Danish flag. This marks the first instance of Saildrone autonomous vessels operating under a national flag.
Through collaboration with the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), new regulations were developed to facilitate the registration and operation of these unmanned units. The DMA's Regulatory Future Lab worked with industry representatives to create safe and practical solutions for maritime technologies that exceed existing frameworks.
The four Voyager USVs are currently performing tasks within Danish territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea. Initial trials involved cooperation with various Danish defense entities, including the Danish Defence Drone Centre and the Danish Navy.
